"Credits and Ressources": Getting started with personal Websites

← back to overview

ok, sorry, cannot stop myself from spicing it up a little bit

(also this page will probable be in permanent work-in-progress-purgatory)

The first time I kinda was made more aware of the current landscape of personal websites, was when I read an essay from CJ the X: What is to be done? A manifesto to return to web 1.5. That made me wanna explore personal websites more, but I didn't really go out to explore outside their website and their mutuals.

What made this more tangible(?) to me was watching You got Kat's Video about neocities and the indieweb in general.

This made me start looking into neocities and start my website. Writing text and linking images was easy, but at some point, I was confused about how to further customize things on my website. I think that watching "HTML & CSS Full Course for free"  by Bro Code gave me a broad overview of what I could do with html and CSS...Only to forget most of the specifics a few day later. Good thing you can just google it quickly! I just wrote stuff like "html table" or "css animated Background" and I could implement Stuff within a few minutes (or a few days at worst). The most solutions I was able to find on w3schools (and some other websites too but you much rather find solutions by searching them up firsthand).

Ah, something I would've liked to have discovered sooner is this video about file paths. This is sooo useful to know so I can properly organize my countless pages and images while also being able to link back to pages, Images, css-files and more (I had to reorganize my entire website upon gaining this knowledge). There was also a Video about how to structure your Website within folders, but sadly I didn't save it so I don't have a link for it yet :(

What infuriated me as a comic creator, was that I didn't discover Rarebit sooner! I already did like 30+ html pages of each of the episodes, linked them all together, so even with all the great features they have, I don't have the energy to test out, if this would work well with my current webcomic. Oh well...

By the way... on the topic comics, I am glad that I found ayanos comment widget (I also used this for the guestbook btw)! I was worried that I couldn't add the level of interactivity of comic hosting sites on my website; that If the reader wanted to comment something, they only could do that on other websites or more inconvenient ways. So I was thrilled upon discovering that you can have several comment sections on different pages! Very thankful for that!

And uh... the occasional png images you may see in home come from Wrender. Very neat!

I'm pretty sure that I forgot a few things but I didn't wan't that to keep me from posting this credits/ressources-page.
